Opened by the German foodie Wolfgang 23 years ago when Pantai Cenang was a sleepy fishermen village, the Beach Garden passed the test of time with flying colors – bursting at the seams although surrounded by hundreds of other culinary outlets today.
Situated directly on the beach, you will enjoy a beautiful view of the Andaman Sea and the cozy feeling of warm sand between your toes. Airy canopies above the dining tables provide soothing shade and shelter from an unexpected rain shower.
While loved for its laid-back atmosphere, the sophisticated dark-red table clothes hint that the cuisine served has class. And indeed, J.J. Graf, the Executive Chef from Switzerland, used to spoil with his culinary creations discerning guests on 5* Cruise Liners of Sheraton and Hilton and in award-winning resorts all over the world.
Beach Garden specializes in European Cuisine. Although – after all the years spent in Asia – you will find on the menu also fusion and traditional local delicacies. One of the very few places that open early in the morning, the restaurant is a popular breakfast spot, offering a variety of choices from Continental through American to Asian breakfast. Those looking for a quick bite will be delighted by the wide selection of burgers, sandwiches and pizzas. The portions are enormous, so you may chose to share with your partner!
But to truly appreciate the Beach Garden, you better spend an entire evening – enjoying a three course menu! Start with a Mediterranean Antipasto Plate with grilled artichoke heart, sundried tomatoes, olives, pickled garlic, tomato filled with olive paste, goat cheese, hummus, tapenade and herb-garlic bread, try Chicken Liver Pâté with French Bread or the delicious Lemongrass chicken Skewers with mint sauce.
When it comes to main course, opt for the Australian Sirloin Steak, Lamb Rack with herb gravy and roasted potatoes and vegetables or Cordon Bleu. Seafood lovers will be delighted by the signature Seafood Stew ‘Pantai Cenang’ or the Lobster Thermidor in creamy brandy sauce gratinated with mozzarella cheese. Accompanied by a chilled glass of wine, cool beer of the keg, or Paulaner beer served in traditional glasses – you are sure to have a wonderful dining experience!
Since it is nearly impossible to chose among the many enticing dessert options – best each of you places a different order and you share the exquisite Panna Cotta made of cardamom flavored coconut milk with salsa of pineapples and chili flakes on site, the home-made Apple Strudel served with poppy seed vanilla sauce and ice cream or the Old School Coffee-Caramel Trifle. Pure indulgence!
The secret among expats? You can also stop by to buy freshly baked German walnut, rye and multigrain bread or pretzel rolls!
