Campaigns to Boost Langkawi Tourism

Following by Sabah and Sarawak, Kedah became the third state in Malaysia to carry out tourism campaigns in Singapore this year to attract local and expatriate tourist markets.

The three-day tourism promotion campaign which is organised by Tourism Malaysia, Langkawi Development Authority (LADA), the Kedah chapter of Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents Association (Matta) and Kedah Tourism Action Council.

Over 30 travel agents, hoteliers and tourism bodies from Langkawi and Alor Setar are now in Singapore to meet up with their local counterparts to promote Kedah tourism products to Singaporeans.

LADA statistics indicated that about 40,000 Singaporean tourists visited Langkawi in 2008 compared to about 35,000 in 2007.

Silk Air, Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia currently operate more than 30 trips every week between Langkawi and Singapore. Besides, more Singaporeans are expected to visit Kedah when additional flights are introduced by Firefly and Jetstar in the coming months.
