Initiator and one of the main sponsors of the KILIM KARST MASSIVE MANGROVE CLEANING that took place in March 2014, the ROTARY CLUB OF LANGKAWI does its best to encourage young Langkawians to take ownership and see themselves as the guardians of the island’s pristine nature.
Aiming to get young participants to reflect upon the event and share their thoughts and impressions with others, they organized with the support of LADA a literary and photography contest. As you can see and read below, their initiative was truly successful! We congratulate the winners and applaud the Rotary Club of Langkawi!

ESSAY of Kelly Gray:
16 March 2014
A Day With the Rubbish
Masses of people swarm around a few sign-up tables in the parking lot near the Kilim boat docks. Everyone is talking and I am just standing there, shocked. To see so many people gathered in one place for such a cause is amazing. I could hardly believe the crowds of people, young and old, who had come to help give back to the earth by helping to clean her shores. The lines trailed through the parking lot, and it was hard to find where one ended and where another began. After I got my number, I wandered around noting how many people had come from around the island.
