Last weekend, I went to the Langkawi Craft Complex on the invitation from Madam Norizan Lob, the Director of Langkawi Craft Complex. I was greeted and met at her office which is located at Teluk Yu, Mukim Bohor, Langkawi about 21 km from Kuah. The various section of building covers three quarter of the 32 acres piece of land. After her brief presentation on the plans for 2012, she gave me a tour on all the section, from the lobby, meeting room, auditorium, various bazars , folk’s game area, exhibition area and glass blowing and batik workshops. The auditorium and the meeting room is also opened for rental.
There are 2 museums, which is the Heritage Museum and the Cultural’s & Wedding’s Museum, all you need to know about Malaysian heritage and the various different culture and wedding in Malaysia. It is so huge and we spent about an hour, skipping the demonstration area as it was closed for a break. (Demonstration booth are opened daily from 10.00am – 6.00pm with a break from 1.00pm – 2.00pm)
It was an interesting tour, especially the craft bazaar where all the various crafts from all the 14 states are displayed. Tourists are encouraged to participate in the batik drawing (where you can take home your finished piece at RM28.00). In promoting the exclusive textiles (which includes the songket) , they even show a demonstration on the traditional weaving.
If you have any intention of getting married adopting the Malay/Chinese/Indian or any of the Malaysian ethnic culture way, you can do so by writing to us and we will work together with the team of Langkawi Craft Complex.
They even have ready Malay wedding dias on display.
So, do not miss the opportunity to visit the Langkawi Craft Complex and learn about the Malaysian crafts and culture. Visiting hours is from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm and admission is free.
